Johnson County Camera Club Monthly Meeting
June 14, 2010

The year-end judging is our program for the evening. Our judge's name is Rick Stare. He presented a program on "Motion Photography" at our March meeting. We have had good participation in the year-end competition, so it should be a very pleasant evening viewing everyone's work.

This meeting is a good time to bring guests.

Johnson County Camera Club Monthly Meeting
May 10, 2010

Time to turn in your year-end entries! Please use the format listed in the May 10, 2010 newsletter when doing so.

There is no formal program at this meeting. We will open the floor to discussion of a number of topics-including feedback on the year’s activities and wish lists for next year. If you have questions, answers, or concerns this is your opportunity to express them. When we have formal programs, we don’t have much time to just “visit” the subject of photography; so we would like to allow for this at our May meeting.

As always, there will be time for show-and-tell.

Johnson County Camera Club Monthly Meeting
April 12, 2010

We will have two short presentations at our April meeting: Dick O’Kell and Michael Stone will discuss framing issues, and Pat Woods will demonstrate ways to create “textured” images.

We will have an extensive Show-and-Tell time. This is an opportunity for all of our members to share images. At the photographer’s request, the club members are happy to critique or offer suggestions for a better image-but this is at your request only. There is no topic for shooting-bring any images you wish—perhaps some of you were inspired by Rick Stare to try motion shots.

If there is time, we will open discussion on any photographic topic a member wishes.

Please remember to adjust the size of your images at 72 in the resolution box and then 1024 pixels for the longest side. This is very helpful to the person loading images into the computer for projection.

Johnson County Camera Club Monthly Meeting
March 8, 2010

There is no specific category for shots for show-and-tell for the March meeting.

Our guest speaker will be Rick Stare.   He will talk about "motion photography" and show his work.

We will try our hand at "motion photography" for show-and-tell at the APRIL meeting.

Johnson County Camera Club Monthly Meeting
February 8, 2010

Bruce Hogle graciously has agreed to show us (via his computer screen and our digital projector) how he created some of the wonderful images he showed us last fall.  (See Bruce's step-by-step instructions in the February newsletter.)  After that, we will have an open discussion on printing.  If you have certain papers that you love, please bring a print done on them to share.  Also come willing to share tips on how to get the best prints, whether you’re preparing a digital negative for outside printing or doing it yourself.  I will do a short presentation on Red River Papers, which I use for my greeting cards.  Door prizes will be given!!!

As usual, we will have ample time for show-and-tell images, and discussion of them if members wish.  Please feel free to bring any images old or new.  It is "hearts and flowers" month, so if there are any romantics out there you might go with that.

Jerry Kolb and I spent a little time at the church with the new digital projector, and we think we can now have much improved image displays.  I still have your previous show-and-tell entries if there happens to be something you would like to go back and take a second look at.

We have been trying to come up with an indoor shoot but so far are coming up empty; so if any of you have a suggestion, please suggest!

See you at the meeting . . .

Johnson County Camera Club Monthly Meeting
January 11, 2010

The January program will consist of two sections:

First, our guest speaker for the evening is John Lamberton, with the Photographer Imaging Services Department at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.  John will talk about two aspects of his photographic life--his recent personal work of 3D photography and printing, and his interesting work life at the Nelson.

Second, we will have a show-and-tell of holiday images (5-7 or fewer) from members’ homes or neighborhoods.  Be traditional or creative.

Johnson County Camera Club Monthly Meeting
December 14

Our December meeting is strictly a social event.  Please bring an 8x10 or larger matted print of one of your images, wrapped or covered, to exchange.  Each print will be given a number and we will draw to see which one we get to take home!

Drinks and food for the evening are provided by the membership.  Sheri Stanberry and Jayne Rudish are supplying the drinks, ice, and paper goods.  Ladies, if you need someone else to pitch in please contact one of our members.  The rest of us bring treats to eat---homemade or otherwise.

Beverly Ross has worked hard to create a new website for our club.  If we can get an internet hook-up at the club meeting we will take a look at it.  If not, we’ll give you all the information and how to submit images to the site.

We should also have time to look at the show-and-tell submissions that were turned in at the November meeting.

Hope to see everyone there . . . .
Marla Craven, Program Chair

Johnson County Camera Club Monthly Meeting
November 9

Guest Speaker: Paul McMillian
Paul will show images from his Swope Park show that closed in September. He will also lead a discussion about photography and “why we photograph what we do.” In that regard he would like members to bring for discussion 1-2 examples (either print or digital image) of something they photographed that they were “passionate” about. If you have a portrait that you would like Paul to comment on that is fine too.

Members' Images
Bring 5-7 images for this -- any topic, any passion. Many people still have summer shots to share, the trees in town were beautiful this Fall, and several of our members have been on safari in the Northeast, so let’s see more images!

It would be helpful to the person downloading images if you would put the images for Paul’s discussion in one folder and the images for show-and-tell in another.
Label the first folder with your name and “guestspeaker.” Sample: Craven_guestspeaker
Label the second folder with your name and “showandtell.” Sample: Craven_showandtell

Johnson County Camera Club Monthly Meeting
October 12

(Paul McMillian of VanDeusen Photography has rescheduled for November due to a work conflict.)

1) Jerry Kolb will show images of Bishop Spencer, review times, directions, answer questions, etc., about the Field Trip October 17th. Please e-mail Jerry or Marla or let Jerry know at the meeting if you will be participating.

2) Don Johnson will give a short tutorial on image sizing: a) how to size images for submittal at club (a Pat Woods request) and  b) how to properly resize images when enlarging them for printing.

3) Show & Tell. You may show up to 15 images. There will be ample time to show, discuss, etc. Here is your opportunity to view and be viewed.

4) For the time remaining, a forum discussion of all things photographic will be held. If you have burning questions about any aspect, from the esoteric "Why do we do this? or "What constitutes art?" to the generic "Where's the best place to buy mats?", the great gurus of the Camera Club will answer them.

Judging of the City Market field trip shots
Entries for the "City Market" judging need to be turned in at the start of the meeting. Pat requests that you label the outside of your CD or flash drive with your name. Up to 3 entries are allowed. Judging will be by members of the club who are not participating in the contest. Points awarded for entry and placement.

F600 and Be Where?
You may never look at your images in the same way again. This presentation by Bruce Hogle and Julie Johnson promises to be an exciting look at being creative, both while you are shooting and while you are processing your images.
